Nesting timetable

* Feb-March: Pairs will be busy looking for a suitable nesting site, so expect to see them flying in and out of your box.

* April: Time for a bit of DIY – Blue Tits can produce a full nest from moss and feathers in less than a week!

* Late April/early May: Look out for the first eggs – a single female can lay up to 16, but never more than one a day.

* Late May: A busy time for parents as the hungry chicks start begging for food.

* June: Time for the chicks to fledge – Blue Tits very seldom have second broods, but other species might so keep watching those boxes.

How to Avoid a Remodeling Contractor Nightmare

Home remodeling is an important task that needs to be done with care. Choosing the right contractor is the fine line between a successful home renovation project and a nightmare. Given that there are many modeling contractors out there, finding the right contractor with the required expertise is always a daunting task for many. To avoid a home remodeling contractor nightmare its critical to follow the following tips;

Check references

Before settling for a given contractor, it is important to talk to several people to get to know about different contractors. Good contractors have good reputation. It is therefore easy to learn about them from people or from reading testimonials and reviews. You should make sure you check for valid licenses and insurance. If possible seek to know how they handled their past home remodel job.

Know What You Want

To avoid any remodel contractor nightmare, it is important to have a plan from the word go. This will save you a lot of time and money that might have been used in acquiring materials that you don’t need. You can always research on the available options before settling for one from apps, counter-top samples and also get pictures and ideas of the same from people who have done home remodeling before. Being specific will help you in getting the accurate estimates and exact materials needed for the job.

Read and understand the contract before signing

After you are done and you are comfortable about the decision you have made, you should secure a contract. But before signing the contract, it is important to read and ensure everything is spelled out in the contract. Make sure that the contractor provides you with the required protections. In case you can not understand any clause in the contract, it is important to seek clarification from the contractor or give your lawyer the contract to review the details of the contract on your behalf.

Choose the right contractor

It is important to choose each contractor for the type of job that they are trained to do. A designer should not be expected to do the job of a plumber and vice versa to avoid a substandard job. Each of them has experience in their field. A contractor who has been in the market for a long time will be in a position to give you good results.  Here is some help in choosing the right contractor.

Interview several contractors

Meet with the prospective contractors and give them your specs, list of materials you want to use and all the planned commencement and completion dates. Allow them to explain to you what to expect from them. Ask as many questions as possible and make sure you understand their plan well. You can also take bids and later on compare and get the best out of the contractors. It is prudent to go for the best bid, and that does not necessarily mean one with the lowest price.

Remember home remodeling can be helpful if done by the right contractor. If not, then it can lead to countless losses and leave the home owner in a position worse than before. It is important to take your time, do a background check on the available options and settle for the best so as to avoid a modeling contractor nightmare.
